Two of her children had scarlet fever and she exposed herself to the malady by nursing them night and day. She contracted the fever and died within 24 hours."* Cause of death: scarlet fever, contracted from nursing two sick children. Age 33. Approximate year: if Hattie was ~21 when Hazel was born (1899), she would have been born c. 1878 and died c. 1911 (Hazel age 12). Original news clipping not yet located.
